Planar Drivers Have Low Distortion:

The flat planar drivers have super fast response time and are able to provide an outstanding amount of fine detail, along with a full, deep bass response, evenly across the frequency range. Distortion levels are ultra low.

Bass response in open back headphones often has peaks and dips, but especially in this price range, the HE400SE provide an excellent, flat frequency response below 100Hz, all the way down into the bottom of the sub bass at 20Hz. 

These affordable HE400SE still feature some similar technology found in models over $1000, like the Stealth Magnets. The outer edges of the magnets are curved to reduce reflections that cause distortion and smear the soundstage. 

The HE400SE are a common 32 ohm impedance, making it simple to match with sources, but they are less sensitive, at 91dB, meaning they need more power to play at the same volume as many other headphones in this price range.

They can be used with good results from a macbook pro, most outboard DACs and Pro Interfaces and ideally they will be matched with a DAC / headphone amp that has wall power, instead of something usb powered.

For fun in the office here and at the Toronto Audio Show, we have tried these with high end headphone amps like the awesome Hifiman Serenade Wireless - we admit they sound amazing for their price when connected to a huge Class A amp like that - its not going to be a common pairing, but these humble HE400SE really can scale up when they get the opportunity!

All Day Wearing Comfort:

Thanks to its newly designed adjustable headband, the HE400SE stays comfortable during hours of listening use. Weight is kept low and the headband has plenty of soft padding. Clamping force on the sides is also kept low, just enough so they remain in place but not too tight.

The casing has been upgraded from older 400 series versions, providing improved durability & protection to the drivers. The silver finish resists showing marks and has a clean look.

A durable black 1.5m long 3.5mm jack cable & 6.35mm adaptor are provided for maximum compatibility with a wide range of devices. The plugs into the headphone are dual 3.5mm - the same as all new Hifiman headphones and also shared by many other brands. This helps extend the life of the headphone, since you can easily swap in a cable from another brand or from an affordable cable company.
